Innovation and sustainability: new WPA multi-scroll chillers and free cooling with environmentally friendly refrigerant R454B, from 206 to 670kW

In the ever-changing landscape of industrial process cooling, innovation and sustainability play a crucial role. New refrigerant R454B: a step forward for the environment

The refrigerant R454B is a low-GWP 467 HFO blend of 69% R32 and 31% R1234yf and represents a significant step forward compared to traditional refrigerants such as R410 (GWP 1924). By using R454B, WPA units contribute substantially to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, help meet increasingly stringent environmental regulations and corporate sustainability goals.

 

Advantages of new WPA chillers in R454B

  • Superior efficiency: the combination of scroll technology with R454B refrigerant allows WPA units to achieve higher efficiency levels than the R410A version, which translates into lower operating costs, making the WPA an economical as well as environmentally friendly choice.
  • Environmental compatibility: due to its low GWP, R454B is not subject to the restrictions of the F-Gas regulation 2024/573, which from 2027 will prohibit the use of refrigerants with a GWP greater than 750 for chillers with a rated cooling capacity greater than 12 kW. WPA units in R454B are therefore a long-term solution, as they will not require any retrofitting in the future.
