The customer

The customer is a global leader in the production of olive oil plants, as well as decanters and centrifuge separators for sectors such as: ecology, recycling and recovery, fuels and mineral lubricants, and animal-derived products. The company, which began over a hundred years ago as a small workshop, has continuously expanded its market presence since the post-World War II era, introducing innovative solutions in its fields of expertise.

Wastewater treatment involves removing toxic substances from liquid waste contained in municipal, industrial, and agricultural discharges, and returning treated sludge and purified water. The process is carried out using centrifuge extractors and pumping systems, which are operated by an electrical control panel for power distribution and process parameter management.

The components of the electrical panel and the air conditioning units in these systems operate in a challenging environment due to the presence of various corrosive substances resulting from the processes:

  • Ammonia
  • Sulfur oxides
  • Hydrochloric acid
  • Hydrogen sulfide
  • Nitric acid
  • Sulfuric acid.

Due to these corrosive agents, the client frequently had to repair or even replace the air conditioning units. Therefore, they requested an enhancement in robustness to reduce the frequency of such interventions.

The technical solutions adopted to protect the components most susceptible to potential corrosive attack were:

  • Printed circuit boards and display circuits covered with a protective resin layer to prevent substances or moisture from settling on the copper conductive paths;
  • Capacitors, evaporators, pipes, and soldering in the refrigeration circuit exposed to the external environment were specifically protected to enhance resistance against corrosive agents;
  • Structural components exposed to the corrosive environment were made of stainless steel

Two special Protherm units, CVE0800220Z003 and CVE2000261Z000, were produced with increased corrosion resistance, making them suitable for operation under highly critical conditions, and ensuring a significantly longer lifespan compared to standard air conditioners.

      Since the client began installing the units CVE0800220Z003 and CVE2000261Z000, they have significantly reduced the number of interventions on the units and the number of spare parts orders, resulting in substantial cost savings.
