WLA Compact 513: the solution for the American market

For years, Cosmotec has pursued a strategic vision focused on sustainability, choosing environmentally friendly refrigerants with a low environmental impact. The WLA Compact 513 units represent a further step in this direction: three new process chiller models — WLA05, WLA08, and WLA13 — specifically designed for the North American market and developed to expand the WLA Compact range. Their distinguishing features? The use of R513A refrigerant, compliance with U.S. regulations, and a UL-configured version with dedicated components.

Reliability and precision for process cooling

WLA Compact is a liquid chiller designed to ensure accurate process temperature control. It is the ideal solution for cooling machine tools and for the chemical-pharmaceutical, food, and medical sectors, where thermal stability is crucial for productivity and the quality of the final product.

The simplicity of the atmospheric circuit, combined with standard safety features — flow switch, hydraulic bypass, and phase sequence module for three-phase power supplies — ensures reliability and a long operational life. Removable panels on all sides and the front-facing position of indicators (tank level and pressure gauge) and hydraulic connections facilitate installation and maintenance, also allowing the WLA to be positioned side-by-side or under a bench. The use of non-ferrous materials in the hydraulic circuit, along with the HDPE tank, preserves fluid purity, reduces corrosion risks, and guarantees stable performance over time.

Compliance with US regulations

The three new models use R513A refrigerant (GWP = 631), a choice that makes them fully compliant with the AIM Act, the U.S. regulation that sets a GWP limit of 700. R513A is classified as an A1 refrigerant according to the ASHRAE 34 standard, meaning it has low toxicity and is non-flammable. As a result, it introduces no additional risks and does not require any extra safety measures for either the system or the location where it is installed.

UL configuration and power supply

The models are available in a UL configuration, featuring a UL 508A-compliant electrical panel, UL-listed motors, AWG wiring, and a Type 1 enclosure. The UL 508A standard defines the requirements for the construction of industrial control panels—from component selection to wiring methods—and only panels built in full compliance with these requirements can be certified as compliant.

Regarding the electrical supply: 230 V/1/60 Hz for WLA05 and WLA08 models, 460 V/3/60 Hz for WLA13 model.
