Liquid chillers designed for process cooling applications operating 24/7, 365 days a year, air-cooled and equipped with two refrigeration circuits and tandem/trio scroll compressors optimized for the use of R410A/R454B refrigerants, plate or shell-and-tube evaporators, and cooling capacities ranging from 563 to 1.911 kBTU/hr. Cosmotec’s experience in process cooling has led to the development of this range of industrial chillers, capable of meeting the wide operating limits required by modern energy-saving technologies, both on the ambient side and the process side. All chillers in the WPA range are characterized by high levels of energy efficiency (Class A or B) and comply with the requirements of the 2009/125/EC Ecodesign ErP 2021 Directive.
Low GWP (Global Warming Potential) version
The WPA units are available with the low-environmental-impact refrigerant R454B, which ensures a reduction in global warming potential (GWP = 467). Classified as A2L, R454B is non-toxic but mildly flammable, in safety group PED 1.
Free Cooling
WPA chillers are available with an Integrated Free Cooling version, providing significant energy savings, particularly in applications requiring high cooling fluid temperatures (such as plastics processing and data centers) and in installations located in cold or temperate climates (minimum ambient temperature down to -20°C). By using outdoor air to cool the fluid, the Free Cooling system can completely replace the refrigeration circuit under suitable conditions, allowing the compressors to be switched off entirely.
Broad operating limits
Every application has different requirements based on ambient temperature, fluid temperature, positioning, noise level, etc. Cosmotec is able to meet the most diverse needs, thanks to a wide range of options and the possibility of extending the operating limits of the WPA series chillers, if required.
Very hot and dusty environment
WPA chillers are fitted with metal air filters to protect the condensers from dust and dirt. Operation is possible up to 131°F with the Unloading function. 100% cooling capacity is guaranteed up to 113°F. If the temperature rises, the Unloading function reduces the load on the compressors without switching them off.
Very cold environment
The compressor compartment is closed and heating elements are installed to protect the electrical panel, compressors, evaporator and the entire hydraulic circuit. The Free Cooling reaches down to -40°F (in a special version) with components specifically selected to guarantee a long life for the entire chiller.
High-temperature water applications (plastic)
The cooling circuit is specially designed to achieve high delivery temperatures. The compressor has wide operating limits and a high suction temperature.
Applications with cold water (Food, Beverage, biogas)
The refrigeration circuit is designed to reach low supply temperatures. The thickness of the thermal insulation has been increased, and the anti-freeze system is standard to preserve the refrigerant and hydraulic circuits in both operating and stand-by modes.
Integrated Hydronic Group (option)
The hydraulic group includes the main hydraulic components and is available in several configurations: with single or double centrifugal pump (WPA060 – WPA140), high or low head, fixed or inverter-controlled speed, and inertial accumulator (WPA060 – WPA140).
