Starting January 1, 2027, EU Regulation 2024/573 (F-Gas) will introduce new limits on the Global Warming Potential (GWP) of refrigerants, accelerating the transition toward lower environmental impact solutions. For air conditioners and chillers with a cooling capacity below 12 kW placed on the European Union market, the GWP limit will be 150. For air-cooled chillers with a cooling capacity above 12 kW, the limit will be 750.
In the article F-GAS 2027: What Changes for Industrial Cooling? we analyzed refrigerants with a GWP below 150 suitable for industrial air conditioning and refrigeration applications, highlighting that all of them present varying degrees of flammability. This characteristic may pose safety risks when cooling devices are integrated into applications such as machine tools or electrical enclosures.
Based on this assessment, Cosmotec has chosen to continue offering products using R513A refrigerant, which can be supplied under exemptions to the F-Gas Regulation limits for specific site- or equipment-related safety reasons.
Where installation conditions and risk assessments allow the use of units with flammable refrigerants, Cosmotec offers a range of efficient and sustainability-oriented solutions.
Air Conditioners
Starting from January 2027, Protherm, SlimIn and Top CE units will be available with R1234yf refrigerant, featuring an ultra-low GWP of 0.5, well below the regulatory limits. This evolution preserves the performance, dimensions and mounting cut-outs of the current R513A range, providing customers with a more environmentally friendly solution while maintaining the same advantages in terms of easy installation and integration into their equipment, ensuring application continuity.

Chillers
As with air conditioners, Cosmotec has decided to complement the current WRA ErP units with R513A by introducing new models using R1234yf refrigerant for capacities below 12 kW. Together with the existing WLA Compact range, this development completes the entire R1234yf chiller portfolio, covering cooling capacities from 1 to 12 kW.The 5 to 6 kW size (WRA18) will not be available; therefore, applications requiring this capacity range should be oriented toward the next size up, the WRA20.
For the WRA0A and WRA5A units, offering approximately 40 kW and 50 kW of cooling capacity, the use of R513A refrigerant is permitted. With a GWP of 631, it complies with the limits applicable to this product category and is non-flammable. All the chillers mentioned above will be available to order from September 2026.
